Is it really so strange?

Twice now, when I've heard about something bad happening to one of my friends, I've felt bad because of it. When I expressed this, twice was I met with astonishment. A question asked: "It doesn't affect you, why do you feel bad?" Is it unusual to be sympathetic when something bad happens to your friends? Or am I just such in an unusual quantity? Why is it unusual? Do we truly live in a cold, uncaring world? Is my warmth that unique? Is it really so strange?
